Australia has benefited from its enormous cultural diversity. One of the most obvious of those benefits is the wonderful quality and variety of food that we enjoy.
The City of Port Phillip is located on the southern edge of the Melbourne CBD and borders Port Phillip Bay from Port Melbourne to Elwood, incorporating the suburbs of St Kilda, Elwood, Balaclava, South Melbourne, Albert Park, Middle Park, Port Melbourne and St Kilda Road Melbourne.
There are few, if any, places in Australia where more cultural diversity and quality eateries are to be found. Some of the restaurants and cafes in the area are highly respected, iconic institutions while others are small, local, well-kept secrets.
For most of us in the City of Port Phillip, food is plentiful. Sadly, both locally and elsewhere, not everyone is as fortunate. The Sacred Heart Mission provides a decent meal to hundreds of distressed and disadvantaged people every day. Rotary’s ShelterBox program provides thousands of people throughout the world with the bare necessities for survival when they are at their most vulnerable.
This is the community in which the Rotary Club of St Kilda is privileged to participate.
The aim of Relish 2010 is to:
- salute some of the many wonderful eating places that surround us
- provide new avenues for community participation
- support the local charities
- further
raise awareness of the work of Rotary.
We hope you Relish the result!
Why relish?
‘Relish’ can mean many things in both life and
cuisine. To us it includes:
- enjoying life and delighting
in what we do
- being grateful and appreciating what we have
- taking the time to savour a simple moment
- celebrating the distinctive taste of fine food.
