The work of Sacred Heart Mission began in 1982 with
Parish Priest, Father Ernie Smith’s welcoming response
to those who came knocking on the door of the Presbytery
seeking food and shelter.
Since that time, the Mission has continued to respond
to the basic needs of those who come seeking assistance.
Every day of the year the Mission assists hundreds of
people who are homeless or living in poverty to fulfil
their physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs.
The Mission offers a range of services and support including
a meals service, housing assistance, counselling programs,
food parcels, emergency financial support, employment
programs, sports and recreation activities, arts programs
and drug and alcohol support.
We also operate a clinic, mental health
team, 3 aged care hostels (83 beds), crisis accommodation
for women, 5 Op Shops, a 64-bed rooming house and a drop-in-centre
for women.
